On Saturday, I helped transport Kenny (formerly of Kenny and Rose, but Rose's adoption fell through) to his new foster home.
Kenny is a nine year old Brittany who was found wandering the streets somewhere in West Virgina. He was transported from the shelter to a Brittany Rescue-approved foster home in New Hampshire. He's a very sweet, funny, and outgoing guy. He's one of those guys that is trying really hard to find a home. You know the type -- he meets each person with a big, goofy smile, a tail wag, and an expression that says: "You wanna take me home? Do ya? Do ya? Pleeeeeeeeeeeease?!?!" It became clear that Kenny will do anything to please you. Just take him home, please. :-)
This was an uneventful trasport, thankfully. Everything ran on time and went smoothly. The previous leg got to the meeting site a bit early, so Kenny was walked and watered by the time I got there. We loaded and headed on down the road. Kenny, sadly, has severe dental issues. He doesn't have most of his teeth and the teeth that do remain are badly decayed. I won't be surprised if they have to pull most if not all of them soon. As sweet as he was, the teeth issue caused some nasty halitosis. So I cranked the air -- less panting from Kenny = a much more pleasant trip for both of us!
This is how he started the ride...panting...right in my ear....
I mentioned to him, gently of course, that his breath was less than desirable and much to my chagrin, he quickly moved to the back (see, I told you he was a pleaser!). Hopefully I didn't insult him.
And that's where he stayed, snoozing away the rest of the ride!
There was one teeny tiny event of the trip. I had just come from the barn where I was grooming my horse. My horse uses a special shampoo that is deep purple in color. When Kenny first got in to my car, I gave him a few treats. Apparently, he wanted a few more treats and bounded up to the front seat where the afrementioned shampoo was sitting.
We, um, had a minor purple shampoo explosion.
(The shampoo, for the record, is totally non-toxic). Kenny drank most of the water I had, so there wasn't much left to rinse him off with. So, in the end I delivered a very happy, healthy white dog with brown and, ah, purple spots. Whoops.
Kenny's foster mom reports that he is doing well in his new home and his new foster "brothers" haven't made too much fun of his purple foot. He has been re-named Hutch (which is a better name for him, if you ask me!) to avoid name confusion with the foster family's dogs.
So, if anyone in the Northeast is looking for a charming gentleman, please be sure to consider Kenny/Hutch. See here for additional information: http://nbran.org/db/fdi.asp?DogID=2152
